for your reading pleasure

{source}
+I can relate to this as Liam's toddler room begins to near completion. (I know it's been over a year, but that's a story for another day.)

+After all those years of being really mad at you guys, I just want to say that you were right, Mom.

+I do love elbow patches

+I kind of want to try this

+I'm loving this Inauguration mashup.

Recent Read-alouds:

+The political cartoons throw my kids off on the GED Social Studies test, so I've started doing one of these a week. I was a little concerned about this week's topic, but I must say that the conversation was much more civilized than I would have had with some of the adults I know.

+ I also love my students' insight on this

+I love the New York Times Poetry Pairings. Quote for this week: "Ma'am, I don't think (my girlfriend and I) are ever going to change. Or, at least I hope not."

  1. Ooooh, the cartoons! I had a teacher my junior or senior year of high school who shared political cartoons with us every Monday morning. Our job Mondays was to come in, view the cartoon, and write a quick response to it. I never watched or listened to the news so I only understood about half of them, but they always sparked interest in me and often turned an entire class period into a lively debate!

  2. Oh I love the article on the "F" word! Fantastic. What were your students insights on it?

    1. I work with at-risk youth (of varying ability levels, as is the case with most classrooms). I always think it's interesting when students come to the realization that they'd prefer a teacher who holds them accountable. One student also said, "Sometimes students who can pass the tests aren't actually learning the information, and just because a student can't pass the test, it doesn't mean he isn't learning things."
